Are you frustrated by the number of under-skilled writers who are knocking at your door applying for a writing job? Or what about the over-skilled writers who want top dollar for their talent? Give me a shout! I am highly skilled for tackling the most difficult of documentation projects. I use the most current applications to get your job done. I will price your project competitively!
Let me review your documentation for a detailed analysis, free to first time clients. Your analysis will include: structure of your documents; how effective your style is attracting new customers; solid definition of your services and products; effectiveness of how your documents are displayed – website, intranet, online help, etc; what kind of version control you have; your review processes; your backup/restore process.
With my skills and tools, I will manage your projects, write technical and marketing content, design/maintain your website and wikis; and design an on-boarding process for new employees. I am also pretty good at authoring your online help.
Samples of my work can be found on the My Portfolio page. There are samples for current work and samples from Write By Design, a business I owned in the 90s. The samples exemplify my eye for detail and the my creative perspective.
Difference Between Marketing and Technical Writing
Marketing documents describe a client’s products with long, beautifully written sentences and lots of graphics without sacrificing content. They are written to convince the buyer that the product is the best product for their needs. I’ve written a few.
Technical documents describe installation, configuration, and maintenance tasks. The writing is brief, clear, and direct and often written as a series of tasks and steps. The layout is usually a branded presentation and follows this flow:
Overview – Describes what the chapter contains and gives a high-level description of concepts. The tasks are cross-referenced to the spot they are in the document.
- Task 1 through “x” – Installing the software.
- Step 1 – Start the installation by inserting the Install DVD in the computer.
- Step 2 – Follow the prompts.
I have over 20 years experience in writing, editing, and formatting documentation and managing the project itself . For one client, I identified their needs, created a project plan, researched the topics, and met their documentation goals and deadlines.
I am located in Southern California. My goal – help you no matter where your business is located in the US, reduce technical support calls, and increase production.
